Reaching a person

Beat is made by a very small team, and support is read by a person rather than a queue. Write to hello@beatflyfishing.com and tell us what happened. We answer every message.

It helps enormously if you include the version of Beat you are running, your device and iOS version, and what you were doing when it went wrong. If a screen looked wrong, a screenshot saves us both a round trip.

Signing in

Beat uses Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google. There is no Beat password to lose, which also means we cannot reset one for you.

If your atlas looks empty after signing in, the usual cause is signing in with a different provider than last time. An account created with Apple and an account created with Google are two separate accounts even when both carry the same email address. Sign out, sign back in with the provider you first used, and your water will be there.

If you used Sign in with Apple and chose Hide My Email, everything in Beat works normally. Mail we send you reaches you through Apple’s relay address.

Your account and your data

Everything you record in Beat is readable only by your own account. What we hold and why is set out in full in our Privacy policy.

To delete your account and everything in it, write to hello@beatflyfishing.com from the address on the account. Deletion removes your atlas, your logged catches, your notes and your profile. It cannot be undone, so we will confirm with you once before anything is removed.

If you would like a copy of your own data before deleting it, ask in the same message and we will send it to you.

Purchases and refunds

Anything you buy inside the app is sold by Apple, so Apple issues the refund, not us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, and manage or cancel a subscription in Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions on your device.

If a purchase went through but did not unlock, do not buy it a second time. Write to us with the date of the purchase and we will put it right. Our refund terms for anything sold outside the App Store are in the Terms of Service.

The fly scanner

Pointing the camera at a fly reads the label first and falls back to recognising the fly itself. A few things make it much more reliable:

  • fill the frame with the fly or its label rather than the whole box;
  • even light, with no hard shadow across the hook;
  • a plain background, since a patterned one gives it more to argue with.

If it reads a fly wrongly you can always correct it by hand, and nothing is recorded against your atlas until you accept the result.

Guides and shops in the directory

Beat lists guides and fly shops as a service to anglers. We are not affiliated with any of them, we take no commission, and a listing is not an endorsement.

If you are a guide or a shop and want a listing corrected or removed, or you want to claim your own listing, write to us from an address at your business domain and we will sort it out.

Reporting something wrong in a published beat

Beats published by other anglers are their work, not ours. If something in one is unsafe, inaccurate about access or trespass, or should not have been shared, tell us which beat and what the problem is. We would rather take something down and discuss it than leave bad water information standing.
